Beatriz Dornelles Mora: A Devoted Advocate for Children's Well-being

An Inspired Career Shift

Originally from Brazil, Beatriz Dornelles Mora first embarked on a career as a lawyer before following her true passion for the development and support of individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders. Her decision to leave the legal field to focus on special education reflects her deep commitment to the well-being of children and young adults. In 2017, Beatriz moved to Canada to begin a new professional journey.

Diverse Education and Experience

In Canada, Beatriz dedicated three years to studying special education. During this time, she completed an internship at a specialized high school, working with adolescents and young adults with disabilities. This practical experience enriched her skills and strengthened her determination to help those in need. After graduating, she worked with young adults with cerebral motor deficits, and then joined the English Montreal School Board (EMSB) as a behavioural technician. For nearly two years, she provided her expertise in various schools, assisting children from preschool to high school.

A Journey at Miriam, Gold Learning and Research Centre

In November 2020, Beatriz joined Miriam as a therapist. Her competence and dedication quickly led to increased responsibilities. By May 2021, she became a part-time supervisor and, a few months later, a full-time supervisor. Her role at Miriam is crucial: she develops and oversees client programs, creates behavioural protocols, and trains therapists in the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles. Additionally, Beatriz supports junior therapists during therapy sessions, evaluates and manages behaviours, and collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to provide holistic services.

A Special Interest in Children

Beatriz is particularly passionate about working with children who have fine motor skills difficulties and feeding issues. This specialization allows her to make a significant difference in the lives of many children and their families by providing them with the tools needed to overcome these challenges.
